FIND YOUR WHY IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Why do you? In the modern days, photography is viewed as source of income. An activity that one can do to get money to sustain them and maybe enable them to pay rent and buy food and make sure other bills are paid too. Well, that’s definitely the opposite of a real photographer. Often we are working with tight time frames while struggling to meet client needs which carries potential risk of damaging work quality and commitment.

To me there is more to photography than just taking pictures and submitting work before deadlines. Photography to me is so much more than taking images because everyone can do that. My camera is like an extension to my hand. Every picture that my camera takes is to be of the best quality because it a memory that will be referred to in many more years to come. I value and respect work done from one’s passion and hard work. I would advice that if need be, a photographer should create an emotional connection with their camera so that they can always get the best of their skills from it. We know that nobody would want to emotionally hurt or damaged by someone who you have emotional connection to. I started taking pictures and dreamed of being a photographer one day and maybe be able to capture moments the people would look at many more years after. On my Dads last year of retirement, he came to see where I was staying in campus for the very first time since I moved a way from home. It was an emotional moment for me because it came out to me that he cared. Shortly after he went back home, I received a call from my brother that he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I was shocked and hoped for the best but unfortunately God had other plans for him, may his soul Rest in Peace. During those moments that we were together I never had a chance to capture or record and it hurts to remember that. I wish that I had taken pictures that I would look at today and maybe show my generation that day because it was so important to me. Since then my passion for photography had grown and photography has been a huge part of me.

I capture moments for people because I don’t want them to miss what I missed. That’s the major reason why I take photography so personal and create pictures to my best of skill. Photography can be so interesting because it gives you opportunity to meet new people and create new friends. It is a connection that human beings need for very many reasons. Pictures are so important in our day to day lives. It can help in very many ways, emotionally, physically and even socially. As a photographer try to find a reason for taking a picture and relate deeply with it, it will be the best picture you could ever take. Trust me, as a photographer, when you find your “why”, you will definitely enjoy what you doing and find better results than what you have right now with you.
